Second Chance Program offers effective alcohol and drug rehabilitation
Not all alcohol and drug rehab programs are the same. Successful alcohol and drug rehab programs are a multi-phase, long-term process. To ensure the greatest possible chance of success a rehab program should provide detoxification, then address the real reason the individual started using alcohol or drugs in the first place, and then give the individual all the tools necessary to handle the situations that arise in his life so he can create a very happy and successful life.
Detoxification is the first step on the road to recovery. Street drugs, prescription drugs and alcohol can remain in the body for years. These residues can trigger a variety of symptoms, including drug cravings and depression. The Second Chance program uses a sauna detoxification and vitamin protocol that eliminates the toxic drug residues that create the physiological craving for drugs. Once an individual no longer has the physiological craving he can move onto handle the real reason he first became addicted to alcohol or drugs.
The Second Chance program is a non-medical, social rehabilitation model using a manualized approach rather than a counselor driven approach.
The program handles both alcohol and substance abuse. Individuals are taken off all addictive drugs and do extensive education to aid rehabilitation. The program consists of courses studied in a specific sequence where the participant moves through the courses at his own rate.
The courses specifically address areas such as self-control, critical reasoning skills, problem solving skills, cognitive behavior skills, life skills, coping resources, the development of moral reasoning skills and restoration of self-esteem. Addressing these areas has been found to have a positive impact on the development of pro-social behaviors and the reduction of recidivism.
The Second Chance program consists of the following modules:
Drug Rehabilitation Module
The Drug Rehabilitation Module is one of the early steps of the program and a vital aspect of rehabilitation because the individual has the opportunity to handle their alcohol or drug addiction.
The Drug Rehabilitation Module incorporates a sauna detoxification and vitamin protocol that eliminates the toxic drug residues that create the physiological craving for drugs. When an individual has completed the long-term detox the metabolic residuals from years of substance abuse are eliminated from their body.
As well as eliminating the craving for alcohol or drugs, the detoxification produces other physical benefits such as an improved feeling of well being, enhanced strength and vitality, and higher activity levels. Individuals also report improvements in their mental state; such as the confidence they can fully conquer their addiction, and a more positive outlook on life and the future.
"Now, if you look at my body I had; nicotine, anesthesia (from surgery), steroids (from football), marijuana, methamphetamines, cocaine, heroine, psych medications, alcohol, LSD, PCP, and various other mood altering substances. The sauna detoxification process changed all of that. Where I once had aches and pains from cravings, now I have happiness and a drug free existence." J.M.
Study Skills Module
The Study Skills Module helps an individual know he can study effectively and increase his understanding and competence in any subject he wishes to study. This is a vital skill for future success in life.
Self Respect Module
The Self Respect Module fosters an enhanced understanding of core values that are vital to personal happiness and a feeling of personal worth. An individual develops his own personal code of honor and learns the tools to effectively apply this code to create a happy life. Individuals who have completed this module report a return of personal honor and the regaining of self-respect, the most important attribute for true personal happiness and success.
"By doing the program I got back my self-respect and my personal honor. I never realized I had lost my self-respect when I got involved in drugs, but I did, and now I can honestly say, thanks to Second Chance, I got back my self-respect and my honor and I’ll never lose them again." T.C.
Life Skills
The Life Skills Module assists an individual to determine what he wants to achieve in life and then to develop a very clear plan on how to go about achieving those goals. Individuals also receive vital training explaining why they have experienced ups and downs in life and have not been able to manage their lives, as they would like to. This training puts the individual in control of his own life and gives him the tools to create his own map to a successful life.
"I learned really beneficial life skills on the program; principles to succeed in life. I worked out how to live a better life without drugs and alcohol. I know I can now achieve what I want in life. I now want to help my family. I want to be there for them. I am setting up my life so the things of the past won’t happen to me again." R.G.
Reintegration Module
The Reintegration Module is continued post release over a six-month period in three steps.
The first step, Life Basics, addresses the individual’s immediate needs in re-establishing his life, such as housing, employment and, if necessary, assistance from outside agencies to cover life’s basic necessities.
The second step, Life Planning, addresses the need to move the person from a life of simple basics to a life of accomplishment. Addressing such subjects as career planning, further education, financial planning and relationship planning, this step teaches the participant to conduct his life with plans for the future versus living day by day, seeing what comes his way.
The third step, Life Skills, assists the participant in implementing his life plan with the help of a life coach. The emphasis is on increasing his self-reliance to foster his success in life and decreasing his reliance on outside agencies.
The program takes approximately 6 months to complete, depending on the individual’s study skills and motivation to complete the program. A motivated individual can complete the program in less time.
"It is like I finally woke up from a bad dream. I feel very grateful that I got to have the knowledge and skills taught in the Second Chance Program because I don’t think anything else would have helped. I have completed the program and now I want to help others get what I got out of the program – that is, getting my life back." M.G.
