1. Where is the Second Chance Center located?
The Second Chance Center is located on the outskirts of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The address of the Center is: 7440 Jim McDowell Road NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120.

2. What rehabilitation program does the Center offer?
The Second Chance program is a non-medical, social rehabilitation model using a manualized approach rather than a counselor driven approach.
The program handles both alcohol and substance abuse. Individuals are taken off all addictive drugs and do extensive education to aid rehabilitation. The program consists of courses studied in a specific sequence where the participant moves through the courses at his own rate.
The modules delivered within the Program are: Drug Rehabilitation, Study Skills, Self Respect, Life Skills and Reintegration.

3. How long does it take to complete the Program?
The program takes approximately 6 months to complete, depending on the individual’s study skills and motivation to complete the program. A motivated individual can complete the program in less time.

4. Is an individual released after completion of the program?
After an individual has successfully completed the program his judge is notified. The individual’s release or return to the court is dependent on the decision of the judge.

5. What happens if a resident fails to complete the Program?
We only accept sentencing that stipulates the completion of the program. This is because it is important to complete all steps of the program to get the full result. Failure to fully complete the program does affect the effectiveness of the overall result of the program and impacts the effectiveness of the Reintegration Module, the successful reintegration of the individual with his family and society.

6. Is there support after completion of the Program?
The Reintegration Module is continued post release over a six-month period in three steps to ensure the individual makes a smooth transition back into his family and society, and has the tools and a plan to lead a successful life. The three steps are Life Basics, Life Planning and Life Skills.

7. How is the rehabilitation paid?
Second Chance Center offers a “pay to stay” service. Second Chance accepts private paying residents, the individual being responsible for the cost of accommodation and the rehabilitation program.

8. What is the admissions process to the Center?
The admissions process begins by an individual completing an application requesting placement at the Center. Our Intake Manager conducts a phone interview with the applicant to determine if the applicant is a match for the program. This information is forwarded to the Admissions Committee who reviews all applications on a weekly basis and responds based on the applicant’s suitability for the program and the availability of bed space.

9. What is the level of security at the Center?
The Second Chance Center is a secure residential facility. Security protocols are modeled after a minimum-security detention center employing continuous direct supervision.

10. What is the accommodation at the Center?
The residents live in a dormitory style pod of 56 beds with hygiene facilities enclosed by half walls. Each pod is equipped with a pay phone, a variety of games, books, a television and mailboxes. Services include: a Sunday Church service; a weekly commissary; and daily outdoor recreation as weather permits. Uniforms and basic hygiene supplies are provided.

11. What is the visitation schedule?
Visitation is Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings 6:00pm-9:00pm & Sundays 9:00am-5:00pm. Family or friends can visit on a first come, first served basis. No prior arrangements are necessary if visiting between these hours.
